Linguistic patterns are pervasive. They can be found in our everyday life, and are not confined to ideal laboratory environments.
Like never before, data can be gathered and processed in huge quantities. So-called Big Data can be very revealling and is complementary to the tradtional approaches in laboratory linguistics. Most importantly, it provides us means to establish the ecological validity of theoretical and experimental constructs.
In my research, I compile big data using data-mining and crowd-sourcing techniques. I employ Natural Language Processing tools to answer theoretical questions from the data itself.
